There's a big difference between fishing the Red Sea and deliberately targeting its larger predators. GT, tuna, and amberjack can all test heavy tackle, but strength is about the only thing they have in common. GT are tied closely to reef structure. Amberjack: Fish the Structure Below You
Amberjack bring you back to structure, but differently from GT. Deep reef edges, underwater pinnacles, and other places where hard structure rises from deep water are the zones to target โ which makes vertical jigging the natural technique.
Your jig still has to reach the zone properly. Strong current can turn straightforward jigging into something much harder โ a jig that feels perfect in light current may drift well off target before reaching depth. Jig weight shouldn't come from depth alone; depth, current, and line angle all factor in. Use enough weight for control without automatically grabbing the heaviest jig available โ you still need to work it properly once it's down there.

Hard current across an exposed reef edge can create a perfect GT casting window. Good marks around deep structure can make vertical jigging the obvious call.
